Astrid och Birger

lived at the farm called “Grannahögen”.
The children of Astrid and Birger and the children of Sigrid and John were “double cousins”, because Birger and John were brothers and Astrid and Sigrid were sisters.
I have so many memories from Grannahögen. Just to be there again for a bread baking! Astrid stirs the dough’s together in the large wooden bowls. The stone oven was fired up with birch twigs and when the oven was hot it was swiped clean with a hens wing. And the smell!
I used to sleep in the study room at the bed settee. The buzzing flies. The breakfast after the milking. The gruel and the sandwiches. My first bee sting. Knut pulled the sting. Thanks Knut! The cherry threes and playing in the hay by the barn.
And the parties! Lots of good food. The gentlemen withdraw to the small room to play card. The ladies engaged themselves with their knitting.
