STF postcard no 28 – THE CHURCH IN ONSALA
In Wikipedia, , you can read (in Swedish):
” The church is located on fairly high grund. During the time for the Vikings was the place for the church of Onsala a place for offering. The name Onsala is comming from the Aesir cult and means the hall for Oden.” Futhermore: ” The existing church was built during the 1600s, but parts of the buildning is from a church built late in the late Middle Ages and on the same place. In the tower to the east’s celler you find the crypt for Gathenhielm (1700s) The hijacker Lars Gathenhielm and his wife and partner Ingela Gathenhielm is buried here.”

Lars Gathenhielm, Lars Gathe, but maybe most known as Lasse i Gatan was born 1689. He was raised to the nobility by Karl XII and was by the king allowed to be a legal pirate against ”hostile” ships. He had a god partner in his wife Ingela. Lars died young, only 28 years old in the disease bone turbeculosis.
